Property Taxes in Montgomery County continue to rise, with the most recent raise being almost 9% in 2016. Many seniors who have lived in Montgomery County for their entire lives can no longer afford to live here because of the seemingly continual increases. Many seniors who were originally going to retire have to put off their retirement so they can afford the property taxes that the County imposes. When I am elected in November, I will be an advocate for seniors. I will work to bring tax decreases to seniors across the District. So many states already have tax incentives for seniors who move to their state. Governor Hogan has begun the discussion on this issue, recently proposing no taxes on retirement income of seniors. I commit to continue this discussion and work towards a system where seniors no longer have to pay state taxes past the age of 65.
